Without a marketing strategy, you’ll struggle to get eyeballs on your website, let alone make all those sales you’ve dreamed about.

Except there’s one problem: creating a marketing strategy isn’t easy, especially if you don’t know the first thing about the latest marketing trends.

So what’s the solution?

Hiring an expert, of course! Bringing someone on board who knows what they’re doing can dramatically change the fortune of your business, but finding the right person isn’t a walk in the park.

You could always get in touch with a recruiter. They tend to have fast turnarounds and an unlimited supply of potential candidates, but it can feel like wading through treacle trying to find the right fit. Which is why you should consider taking matters into your own hands and cherry-picking talent that’s right for you.

Here are some key ways you can do that:

1. Scour Online Communities

Communities are everywhere online at the moment.

The expanding nature of the internet and the ability to connect with anyone anywhere in the world means people are forming communities based on their interests and activities.

This is great for you as a business as it means you have access to highly-targeted pools of people who are all hanging out in the same place.
Facebook Groups are great for this.

Start by using Facebook’s in-built search bar to search for “marketing experts” or another similar key phrase you want to tap into. From there, you can filter your search to just include groups and scroll through the list of options. Alternatively, you can search for the “best expert marketing Facebook groups” on Google.

Once you’re in the group, keep an eye on the people who are offering the most advice and sharing the most value with other members. You’ll soon be able to sort the wheat from the chaff and start getting to know potential prospects.

You can also search for marketing-specific Slack communities and join some of those, too. Simply run a search on Google for the best expert marketing Slack communities and join some of the top results. From there, you can engage with experts, start conversations, and discover which marketers cut the mustard.

2. Hunt Down Authors on Amazon

This is a pretty neat (and relatively unknown) way to find marketing experts, particularly ones that specialize in a certain area of marketing.

Start by running a standard search in Amazon’s book section using a phrase like “marketing tips” or “social media marketing” depending on the kind of marketer you’re looking to hire. You’ll then be served a list of top reading materials that have been published on that topic.

We’re not interested in the books here; instead, you want to look at the authors.

These are people who know enough about marketing to have published books on it and, if you search their names in Google, you’ll be able to find out more about them to see if they’d be a good fit for your business.

3. Get Involved in Forums

Like communities, forums provide a place for people with specific interests to hang out and chat with other like-minded individuals.

They’re also a great place to hunt down talent.

Reddit and Quora are good places to start as you can quickly get an idea of who is active in posting knowledgeable information about marketing.

Simply run a search in either of the sites for specific marketing questions and then make a note of active users that are regularly responding to these questions with valuable insights – these people have the potential to be great marketers if they obviously know their stuff and are open to helping others.

4. Newsletters

If you’re into the whole internet marketing thing, you’ve probably signed up for a few newsletters along the way – maybe you wanted to get a free download, or maybe you just liked the voice of a specific influencer and wanted to hear more of what they had to say.

Either way, newsletters are a good way to keep up-to-date with the latest experts.

Agencies regularly share quotes, case studies, and testimonials from expert marketers, while newsletters from marketing influencers will help you build up a rapport with potential prospects via the safety of your inbox.

5. Insights From Round-Up Posts

Round-up posts are all the rage at the moment – you know, the pieces that share quotes and advice from a list of experts?

These posts are ideal for finding a slew of great talent all listed in one place.

Start by searching Google for relevant articles (a search phrase like “top marketing tips from experts” will work) and then clicking through into the posts to see which experts have been quoted.

From there, you can start making a list of people who know their stuff and, if you keep seeing the same expert popping up in roundup posts, you know that they’re the real deal.

Your World-Class Marketer is Just a Search Away

It might seem like an impossible task trying to find someone who is capable of taking your business to the starry heights you dream of, but it doesn’t have to be.

In fact, finding world-class marketing talent is easy if you know where to look. Start by joining communities, signing up for newsletters, and using tools like Amazon to start your search for a marketer that could change the future of your business.
